Detroit Jews for Justice is hosting a summer event series to recollect, interrogate and contextualize the 1967 civil uprising, in partnership with Jewish Historical Society of Michigan. Participants will come away from the events with a more nuanced understanding of the summer of '67 and how its legacy impacts our relationships to Detroit today.

JUNE 28th: Community Dialogue at Repair the World Workshop
Join us for an evening of intergenerational dialogue, personal narrative monologue, and a walk through history as we partner with the Boggs Center, Repair the World, and The Well to host a discussion on Wednesday, June 28th from 6:30 - 9 at the Repair the World Workshop at 2701 Bagley Ave. Join us as we explore the following questions:
- How do we create caring, sustainable, and interconnected Metro Detroit communities that respect the dignity of all?
- How do we learn our histories surrounding the 1967 Rebellion while going beyond shame, blame, and guilt?
- How do we acknowledge how we fit in the systemic racial and economic injustice that catalyzed the 1967 Rebellion while creating healthy and empowering community conversation that heals and leads us to act with accountability?
JULY 2nd: '67 Rebellion Bus Tour
Join DJJ us for a day with Black Scroll Network History & Tours educator/historian and ASALH Detroit president, Jamon Jordan, on a bus tour that will take you through the history that led to the 1967 Rebellion (sometimes referred to as the 1967 Riot), the most significant sites during the 1967 Rebellion, and a discussion on the legacy of 1967 and how that history affects the present day reality in Detroit. Date TBD: Metropolitan Jews Book Talk
Join us for a discussion of Lila Corwin Berman's 2015 book, Metropolitan Jews: Politics, Race, and Religion in Postwar Detroit. In this provocative and accessible urban history, Berman considers the role that Detroit’s Jews played in the city’s well-known narrative of migration and decline.
